Canon’s opening gambit on our arrival at drupa 2012. I’m sure that advocates of ‘the paperless office’ would slightly disagree with that statement, but one has to question how much progress has been made in achieving this goal over the last ten year. Judging by the enthusiasm and investment in Research and Development made by all the key manufacturers, they fully believe that print is very much alive and dispels any notions that ‘the paperless office’ is just around the corner, especially in the commercial print arena!
Print remains a major player in any serious marketing campaign with many people unable to resist the power of printed collateral over its electronic counterpart.
Canon’s offering at Europe’s largest commercial print fair, brought together their existing range with the recently acquired Océ portfolio. The latter offers innovative technology that is not only more economical to run but has the potential to offer greater reliability and thus, savings on running costs. Couple this with the software developments of both companies, paying particular attention to Océ’s Prisma Suite and Canon has positioned themselves to not just compete with the best, but to be the best!
Anyone serious about print will certainly be planning a trip to drupa 2016 and for those not inspired by the technology on show, down town Dusseldorf on a Thursday evening is certainly well worth the trip!
